Ready meal entrepreneur Charlie Bigham and former President of the CBI Sir Michael Rake are among a raft of business leaders who are supporting the Liberal Democrats.
In addition, entrepreneurs and founders of some of modern Britain's best brands, including Superdry, Lovefilm, Zoopla, New Covent Garden Soup, Big Yellow Group, and eBookers, are among more than 60 business leaders who have written a letter naming the Liberal Democrats as the 'only party who have set out a credible plan for future prosperity'.

    Article: Dec 7, 2019

The Liberal Democrats have accused the Conservatives of failing to protect local small businesses, after figures revealed that 1,435 businesses in the Suffolk Coastal area have closed over the last three years - up 14% on the previous three-year period.

Commenting on the figures, Jules Ewart, said:

"Almost 1,500 local businesses have closed their doors under the Conservative government's watch. Each of these businesses represents jobs, investment and opportunities lost in our area, and the impact of these losses is felt across our small rural community.

The Liberal Democrats have the most comprehensive set of plans to tackle the Climate Crisis. This policy, agreed recently by the party, commits us to urgent action to reduce the emissions of greenhouse gases of all kinds within the life of the next parliament - the one you are voting for now!

Our ambitious programme to tackle the climate emergency across a 5 year Parliament would involve spending and investing an extra £100 billion of public finance on climate action and environmental preservation.

  • Jules in Felixstowe listening to residents in the street canvassing
    Article: Dec 5, 2019

I've spent a lot of time over the last week in Felixstowe, canvassing and listening to the concerns residents have about the state of our NHS, and the proposed new developments that threaten to swamp this lovely seaside town. They need a voice in Westminster who'll stand up for them - as your new MP, I can be that voice. Let's do this together!

    Article: Dec 5, 2019

The latest figures on NHS vacancies reveal that there were 4,403 vacancies for nurses in the NHS in the East of England region in July to September 2019. This means that 13% of posts were unfilled, showing that NHS staffing is in crisis and the situation is set to get worse with the government's current Brexit policy.

    Article: Dec 4, 2019

Today the Liberal Democrats have pledged their commitment to transform mental health services in the UK by creating a binding Student Mental Health Charter. This will require all universities to guarantee access to high quality mental health services for their students.

This is part of the Liberal Democrats' plan to prioritise everyone's mental health, including the commitment to invest £11 billion in transforming mental health services, more than either Labour or the Tories.

    Article: Dec 4, 2019

Responding to Sajid Javid's claim on Radio 4 that he is "confident" of securing a trade deal with the EU by December 2020, Chuka Umunna, Liberal Democrat Shadow Foreign Secretary said:

"Who does Sajid Javid think he's kidding?

"He's either incompetent or dishonest to pretend that the Tories could achieve a Canadian style EU trade deal by December 2020. That deal took seven years to negotiate; only a fantasist would think it's possible to do it in less than a year.

    Article: Dec 4, 2019

Leaked documents from the US-UK trade deal talks have revealed the threat facing farmers in Suffolk Coastal from a trade deal with Donald Trump.

I have written to Conservative candidate Dr Therese Coffey, calling on her to make a "cast-iron" guarantee to vote against any lowering of UK food standards that could put local farmers at risk.

  • Bus stop
    Article: Dec 3, 2019

Responding to Grant Shapps announcement on the Conservative Party's transport plans, Liberal Democrat Shadow Transport Secretary Wera Hobhouse said:

"The Conservatives have overseen a decline of more than 200 million bus journeys since 2015 and failed to invest in our railways, all while Johnson dreams up vanity projects like his island airport, a dud garden bridge and London buses that simply don't work.

    Article: Dec 3, 2019

When asked on the Today Programme this morning whether the government is still prepared to crash out of the EU with no deal in 2020, the Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab said "yes absolutely."

Responding, Shadow Liberal Democrat Brexit Secretary Tom Brake said:

"Dominic Raab has been forced to admit the Tories' dirty secret: a no-deal Brexit is still on the table.
