    Article: Dec 3, 2019

In addition to lots of diamond poster boards, our banners are now going up all around Suffolk Coastal.

  • Suffolk police
    Article: Dec 2, 2019

The Liberal Democrats have announced plans to fund at least 56 extra police officers across Suffolk Coastal as part of an extra £1bn nationwide investment into community policing, and fund an immediate 2% pay-rise for serving police officers.

While crime figures are low in this part of the world, we aren't immune. Many people feel unsafe in their own homes and walking down their own streets, especially at night. We have a bold and credible plan to increase the number of police across east Suffolk, and are the only party willing to back our bobbies with money, not just words.

  • World Aids Day
    Article: Dec 1, 2019

On World AIDS Day, we remember those who have tragically lost their lives to AIDS. As a former nurse, I have seen too many people taken away from us before their time, leaving their families devastated. We have come a long way in tackling this awful disease, but we must build a future where we end the epidemic altogether.

Hundreds of EU nationals living in East Suffolk have not been offered permanent residency in the UK, official figures have revealed. The Liberal Democrats have accused the government of leaving local families from the EU in "legal limbo" and throwing people's lives into uncertainty.

Of the 2,250 EU nationals across East Suffolk who have applied for permanent residency, just over half (1,220) have been offered settled status. 620 have been granted pre-settled status, which only gives the temporary right to stay in the UK.

Only 86% of patients arriving at A&E in Suffolk and North East Essex were treated or admitted within four hours in October 2019, according to damning figures published today by NHS England.

This is well below the official target of 95% of patients attending A&E being admitted, transferred or discharged within four hours.

  • Blue letters stuffing
    Article: Nov 27, 2019

It was a busy day today as two lots of letters needed 'stuffing'. We were given the details of an additional 1700 newly registered postal voters who will be getting their letters from the council over the next few days, whose votes we want to catch. Plus a letter from Lord Foster going to hundreds of members across the constituency.

  • More balloons
    Article: Nov 26, 2019

To mark the arrival of postal votes on doormats from Tuesday, we got some bright yellow bio balloons and had fun with them around the constituency.

    Article: Nov 25, 2019

Today, the Liberal Democrats have set out how a Liberal Democrat government will strengthen support for survivors of violence against women and girls and domestic abuse.

A Liberal Democrat government will expand the number of refuges and rape crisis centres and ensure sustainable funding for specialist support services, having passed the policy in a motion at Autumn Conference.

Churches Together organised a second hustings in Felixstowe at the Salvation Army Citadel in the town centre. All the candidates were present and the room was packed with extra seating having to be organised at the last minute to accommodate everyone. If you weren't able to be there, you can watch it here.

The Liberal Democrats have announced that the party will waive the exorbitant leave to remain application fees for members of the Armed Forces who were born outside of the UK. The fees cost a family of four almost £10k.

In recent years the fees for these applications have been increased to exorbitant levels: they now stand at £2,389 per person, despite the unit cost to the Home Office of processing an application being just £243. This means that the cost of applying for a family of four is £9,556.
