Suffolk Coastal has been forgotten for too long. This community deserves so much better than career politicians who don't understand and don't care. Local issues need a strong local voice. As your Liberal Democrat MP in Suffolk Coastal, here are just some of the local issues I will fight for on your behalf in Westminster:

Climate change in Suffolk

Coastal erosion and flooding is a major threat to our community. I have the backing of the a party that will significantly increase funding to tackle climate change, so I will press for more money to make sure we are all protected. Encouragingly residents have already has the foresight to start planning significant protection schemes which I would look to help bring in additional funding. We constantly hear about Low Emmision zones and congestion charges in the big cities but who is speaking up for rural communities? I will make our Climate Emergency a priority, developing the "Green Grid" which will be the how-to guide for new eco-living.
Jules Sizewell

Energy corporations ruining the landscape

The potential development of Sizewell C is just one example of how the concerns of local people for their environment and landscape have been completely ignored in pursuit of profit. The Lib Dems' pledge is to increase funding for renewables, which would make a project like Sizewell C unnecessary. There is an additional pledge to empower local authorities and independent bodies to take up the fight. A new Citizen's Climate Assembly and Office of Environmental Protection must and will stop big corporates paying lip-service to local consultation.

Second homes decimating our community

Our affordable housing stock is at an all-time low. Second-home owners are driving up the price of housing for all of us. While I do not object to anyone owning an additional property, it affects our communities having so many houses lying empty for most of the year and only existing for the purpose of making a profit or being an occasional holiday home. In a time when there is such a dire shortage of housing, second-home owners should no longer be allowed to avoid tax and must be made to contribute to the communities they benefit from. The Lib Dems have already taken up this issue at a national level and have received backing from the House of Lords. Be it affordable or social housing we must get the priorities for this sector in order.

NHS Doctor

NHS - where to start?

We must protect and indeed develop every precious element of the NHS that resides in Suffolk Coastal. The Lib Dems would put a penny in income tax to meet immedate priorities in social care, reverse cuts to public health and invest in mental health, giving it the same priority as physical health. Our GP system is challenged, with many posts left unfilled. I would look to develop an exciting new GP recruitment plan to attract new doctors to work across Suffolk Coastal.
